Blue Collar Blues
Hang in there Nate .
I use coupons and buy the BIG JUGS of C / CJ (Diesel) rated oils from wally mart ~ I cannot afford to stick to one brand, I have to go by price and make sure it's the proper rated oil.... Many here are comfortably middle class and simply don't get it . I like you, am Blue Collar to my bones and damn proud of it . I'm hanging on here, just paid a few bills this morning and have to wait for my next check to arrive because I'm $2,000 + in the red and don't want to bounce any checks . I no longer smoke, buy beer etc. to make sure I can live within my means .

At one time almost all batteries were built by Johnson Controls. Interstate to Die Hard, they were all the same. The extra cost was for the warranty.
So, having more money than brains, I bought a Die Hard. Yup, can't go wrong with Sears. Hey, they will be around forever to honor the warranty, right? The thing quit after two years. Well, it turns out I needed to go to a Sears Automotive, and since they had almost all closed the nearest one to me was about 500 miles away. But they said they would swap it out if I was willing to drive all day to get there and then spend the next day driving back. I wound up at Walmart. The best deal by far. And hey! They will be around forever to honor the warranty. Right? |

they use to have a battery plant here,Exide. But I never bought that brand or Interstate.I went with NAPA as Wall Mart auto is closed, and I don't want to wait in line to get in,still cool here.

Wally Mart Batteries
They're certainly not 'all the same' .
A simple test is to lift any battery and see how much it weighs ~ the better ones will always weigh more . There a was a time (50 years ago) when the SEARS Die Hard was an above average battery, not so much since the 1980's . I've had very good luck with wallymart batteries for the W123 Diesels .

I grew up that way and was not unhappy with it. It taught me how to do things that I would not have other wise learnt. The wife as well. We try to live by similar values of that time. It kind of puts us out of the current time and typical behaviors. We as a couple always examine value and quality for the money. We remain very self reliant. Personally at our ages I think it is what keeps us going. Money beyond that does not seem to mean that much. It is generally considered to be in bad taste here to show wealth anyways. If we were living pension cheques to pension cheques I do not think it would change anything. Except we would qualify for many things. That we pay for. So in our case what is the difference of having money and not? Not really much. We are both very astute buyers though. |
