Easy ingress/egress for heavy older person?

Which cars are easiest for a heavy older person about 5’8” to get in and out of? The kind of person who leans on the open door for controlled descent into the seat. Make that the driver seat. I’m thinking a minivan or Subaru Forester if it had a framed window. Thoughts?

Old crown Vic police cars seem to truck the cops around pretty good. Subaru Forester seemed small for me when I rented one.

If you want something a little smaller a mazda5 minivan is about 3/4 size of full size. High seat and drives like a car.

My 300 + 3 buddy sold his Lincoln Towncar and bought one of those little square imports, he was amazed that he not only fits but it's easy to get in and out of plus he likes how it drives, comfy and so on .

Maybe a KIA, I'll have to ask him .

So far trouble free too .

My folks just got their first new car in over 15 years last summer. They went shopping and looking at everything from full size SUV's, small SUV's, crossovers, and cars. Ease of entry was a BIG factor for them because my dad has 2 bad knees and it's very difficult for him to get into most vehicles since he uses the door to lower himself down onto the seat, then swings his legs in. Most vehicles force you to bend your knees to do so. By far the easiest car for him to get in and out of was the 2020 Camry surprisingly enough, we were convinced it would be an SUV of some sort. So that's what they bought and he winds up driving that car more than his truck now just because he can get in and out so easily.

Just my own $.02 from elderly folks who went through exactly the situation described by the OP.

Of course there comes a point when none of us should be behind the wheel. My father was one of the safest driver's I had ever ridden with until he hit around 78 years of age.

Then, he began running stop signs, speeding, etc. The first sign he was in trouble was he got into an accident which was deemed to have been his fault.

As soon as your elderly/senior mother or father gets into ANY accident, that is YOUR cue to sell their car, truck or SUV. They won't like it and they usually protest like a mad bull but you have to do what you have to do to make sure they don't hurt themselves or others.....

Thankfully my 89 yr old mom just stopped driving. She still owns a 05 Crown Vic and struggles getting in or out. Best car Ford ever built.

I'm an older guy and I drive a 2000 Toyota Landcruiser. It's built like a tank and you can put all the weight you have on the door to help you. There is also a grab handle on the A pillar to assist getting in and getting out.

The gas milage is terrible, about 11 in the city, 15 on the road, but I just slide in and out. I do have to boost myself up a bit to get in, but getting out is a breeze.

It's got over 300,000 on it and it runs like new.

I'd probably be looking at one of the Cross Overs or smaller Sport Utes. My Neighbor bought one of the GM mid size SUVs. I think due to the ingrese-egrers. He does have a Full Size Truck too. I'd probably try a few and see what fits his frame and budget.

W126 are sturdy and plenty of room for tall people

I agree with the Kia Soul. Sister in law owns one. Roomy, doesn’t sit ridiculously low and reliable.
