I guess I’ve been fortunate, I have rarely been seriously detained or bothered by any sort of convoy action. The closest I’ve come was on the semi-mountain passes on I-5 in southern Oregon. Starting somewhat south of Eugene and continuing on into Northern California. The slowdowns from one semi wanting to pass another, say 48 mph versus 47 mph, often slower. Oh well, would amount to maybe 5 to 10 minutes of delay now and then.

Would be nice if more could be shipped on trains, but I can understand the flexibility that semis offer.

Planning ahead of schedule is always a good idea. Make a habit of periodically checking traffic updates to avoid interstate inconveniences on the drive. Apps, such as Google Maps and other highway-related systems give real-time feedback on current highway traffic. For instance, a portion of the interstate marked in “red” on Google Maps is an indicator of a traffic back up. In addition, city websites often show current construction projects throughout and near the city. If you are near a city, tuning in for traffic updates provided by local radio stations is a tried and true traffic avoidance method.

freight needs to go on trains. There’s no economic reason for a single semi to pull a trailer any farther than 100 miles. A single train can pull 1000 semi trailers day/night.. rain/bad weather without causing a headache for anyone.

Talking Automated Sex....

I too have seen this : two guys in a shiny new black Jaguar pass me on the serpentine Pasadena Freeway and the passenger's head vanishes, shortly thereafter I caught back up as the Jag slowed way down in the fast lane and began to weave, driver's head lolling back in ecstasy .

I saw where this was going to end and backed off, they hit the guard rail in a curve hard, the Jaguar stood straight up in the air for a moment, I took the next exit and called 911, no one was killed .

Then there was the dump truck driver in morning rush hour traffic on the i-5 freeway in Griffith Park who was pleasuring him self and his pants below his knees precluded him from stopping when the traffic in front did.... one car wound up on the rof of the dump truck, another on the hood, a third on the grille and two or three cars in front all smashed end to end...

Pay attention whilst driving folks .

Well, yes, sure. It all sounds very attractive on paper. The difficult part is shuttling the stuff all around, getting access to the trailer that you want, when you want it. Merchants will tell you that the time losses cost them big time. And if it’s perishable food items, it could really cost.

If you'll drive under the Interstate speed limit, there's less clogging at 60 or so.

Post Passing

I'm working on passing others less, it's not easy as I feel everyone else normally drives too dang slow but I want to try and be safer as I age out....

That I pass anyone in a slush box equipped 240D is astounding to me .
