Stellantis will plead guilty to emissions fraud.
Apparently, back when the Volkswagen problem appeared, Mercedes Benz had just placed a large number of diesel autos on a ship U.S. bound. When they heard about Volkswagen, they ordered the ship to do a 180 and come back to germany. Apparently Mercedes Benz hasn't imported ANY diesel cars or SUVS into the U.S. since the Volkswagen problem.

After VW's mess, they took the cars back and stored them awaiting the decision of the court. In 2019, they were able to remediate many of the cars and sell them. I bought a Jetta TDI in May of 2019. Less than 20K miles, warranty until 2024, and all of $14K, out the door. Fifty MPG. Best automotive bargain of my lifetime.

It's terribly unfortunate that hyperbolic enforcement actions against VW has resulted in the removal of wonderfully fuel efficient vehicles from the marketplace. Given the magnitude of the judgment and the vagaries of our judicial system its a no-brainer for every manufacturer to pull the plug on Diesel technology. The risks are orders of magnitudes greater than any potential profits. I'm the original owner of a 2013 GLK with the OM651 engine - it was caught up in the Bluetec issues. My car has also had the remediation work done, I can tell absolutely zero difference in power or economy after the emission mods were done. I find it almost impossible to believe that it was a gross polluter in 2013..... but its apparently now acceptable?

We've seen this a million times. The DOT/EPA gets a carrot up their a** and next thing you know, billions of dollars in product is gone. I believe the government has been after diesel engines for some time now. They believe every car, SUV or truck should be electric.
Speaking of which, a mercedes EQS came up along side me today doing around 50 MPH. It was so quiet it literally startled me when I physically saw it on my left. |

Some of us older people get stuck in our ways. I really do not feel I want an electric car.
Heavier motorcycles are a hobby more than anything. I suspect similar units in electrical versions not to sell well. Apparently they are going to build them. The noise the gas engines make is desirable and also allows other drivers to hear them. Electric motorcycles will be anything but safe. I would never buy an electric car unless there was a dedicated shut off from the battery. The torque they produce you may have little effect with braking during a runaway |

There is a "sound" kit you can get for the Tesla to make it sound like anything from an F1 car to Cummins diesel.
