Today in history: December 18, 1944
The U.S. government finally put an end to the interment of Japanese Americans on December 18, 1944. I remember one Japanese American saying, (my paraphrase) We were forced to rise every day at 5:00 AM, forced to stand in formation facing towards the barb wire fences. We were then told to receit the Pledge of Allegiance as we faced the barbwire fencing keeping us interred saying the words "with liberty and justice for all".

Painful reminder that as long as humans exist there will be many unjust laws and acts of cruelty.
Thanks for the reminder, remembering might keep it from happening again. |

It has been said that history repeats itself. This is perhaps not quite correct; it merely rhymes.
We are unsure who said the foregoing, however it plays today. Fast forward from Ex Parto Endo to the U.S.A. Patriot Act; 2500 pages of legislation conveniently rolled out 30 days after 9/11 (how does 2500 pages get penned in 30 days??). The U.S.A. Patriot Act gives power to the government to arrest anyone "suspected of terrorism" to be held in a prisoner of war camp forever.....habeas corpus be d*mned. Soviet Russia and Communist China don't have anything on us, we are on an ever spiraling descent the likes of which the world has never seen before..... the U.S.A. Patriot Act makes Ex Parte Endo look like nursery school...... |
