CPAP

My wife has been diagnosed with sleep apnea and was prescribed a CPAP device. From the time of diagnoses to obtaining the device was about 8 mos and multiple dr appts/diagnostics. She is having trouble adjusting to it but it is a process. I tried it for a while I was changing a few settings and it is a different sensation for sure. It has a cell modem so they can change the pressure/etc as the Dr calls for. It is much more advanced than the one my brother was prescribed years ago. It is almost silent, heats/humifies the air and adjusts the pressure as needed.

I use one since August.

Try changing mask if uncomfortable.

I would fall asleep at 10am.

It may take 3-4 months before your wife feels better.

How many apnea moments did she have per hour? I was graded as moderate severe.

I don't have the stats in front of me but it is pretty bad. I would hear her stop breathing then gasp for air multiple times in a few minutes. She is getting used to it but not wearing it all night yet.
Saw your little gearbox insignia. I am the only person in our neighborhood with a man trans vehicle (my Tacoma) and hopefully my 3.5 Coupe in the future. I specifically sought a man trans Mercedes. Apparently there were only a little than 100 man trans 3.5 coupes produced.

I've been using a CPAP now for about 14 years. No problem for me and I wouldn't want to be without it. Totally eliminated my getting sleepy while driving in the afternoon or night time.

My ' beauty ' will not make the effort to use hers, even though I've given her multiple articles that tout the health benefits. She also 'gasps for air', wakes up and immediately starts snoring again when she goes back to sleep. She's not overweight at 130 pounds but does make a bit of noise from the snoring.

On mine, I've been thinking about trying to arrange a holder for the air hose that will support it above my head. This would reduce my wake time when I want to turn from my left side to right side, " the hose gets tangled a bit " and I have to wake up more to straighten it out.

I'm working that out now. I have to remember to change the water in the humidifier reservoir every 2 days-one more thing to remember.

Apnea can kill you. Dementia, heart disease, diabetes, not to mention falling asleep at the wheel.

She should at least find out how bad it is with an at home test.

With a water reservoir, it's probably best to sterilize the water container every now and then. Over time it's probably expected to develop a little mold and/or bacteria. That would have a direct path to the lungs.

Post Sleep Apnea & CPAP

Glad to hear this is working out .

My big brother has an older machine, I imagine it's very noisy but once I take out my hearing aids I hear very little at all .

I can't imagine sleeping with that mask but maybe I'll need one in a few years, I notice I get sleepy when driving and I've had insomnia since childhood .

The reservoir gets replaced on a regular basis along with the hose and mask as part of the service. She is using it a little more every day. She must use it a minimum amount for Medicare to pay for it. The service can dial into it to obtain the usage and sleep data for analysis.
