What to do - Old or New
Ok, I'm planning a Road Trip from New Jersey (no joke please, but yes exit 7) to Montana.
Should I drive a 1986 Mercedes 560SL with 190,000 miles or a 2017 SLC-300 with 38,000 miles? I've had the 560SL for 20+ years, and I'm thinking with some preparation (new starter, new engine mounts and new fuel pump) it should be good to go. But no air conditioning in the 560SL. Trip planned for June 2024. Your thoughts? The SLC will have air conditioning and is CPO. Granted, there is a cost difference. Hee Hee But, driving a classic is a story to tell.

IMO...no question, take the 2017 for comfort, reliability, safety and economy.
Have fun!!!

I would think that your local friendly Mercedes dealer would more likely have parts for your newer car, should a problem develop on your trip.

Second the safety mention above. Been in two accidents in the past two years. Both cars were totaled but we walked away with limited injury. All the modern safety features work as advertised.

Thanks much
Definitely leaning toward the 2019 SLC But dreaming of taking the 1986 for the past 10 years. Newer car is winning.
