Snappy Gilmore

He has an interesting wind up and an amazing swing. I'm not a golfer, but this is fascinating:

It makes sense that it would go so far. There is so much wrist in it, that the head speed has to be tremendous. The hand eye coordination he puts into it seems almost super human.

When my son was a teenager he wanted to play golf, so we got into it for a few years. Interestingly, an instructor hit balls using only his LEFT hand to show how important the left arm was for GUIDING the ball. It seemed that he could hit about as far with only his left hand, but he wasn’t using much wrist action.

Thanks for posting this. It may very well be a game changer.

One more thing though, can he putt? The old saying is; drive for show, putt for dough. The short game is where games are usually won or lost.

It does make you wonder if he has a future in pro golf. I'm guessing good putting has a long learning curve.

As far as being a game changer, I have to wonder how common that kind of hand-eye coordination would be.

It's an Instagram video. Not sure if everybody can see those. It's an odd platform.

I have a feeling somebody is going to want to be his coach, cause there could be some money here.

Pro level putting is one of those things where X amount of work will get you to about a 7 level, but it would take about 20X to get you to an above 9 level. The grain of the grass, slope of the green, moisture of the green and on and on.

Snappy's swing is very entertaining to watch and he seems like a fun, entertaining fellow, but m not sure that his swing will accomplish a better long game than a conventional swing.

You could well be right, but I suspect there are more than a few pro golfers who are thinking like I am, which is, golf is Show Biz in a big way. If he could get the rest of the game down pretty well with a crash course, he could be a huge shot in the arm for the golf world.

With a good enough short game, he could definitely stir the pot.

Would be interesting to know the head speed with that style. Apparently he just discovered it recently. Imagine after a couple of years of weightlifting and refinement. I like his style. Would be neat to see him as the public face of golf. Tiger Woods was good, of course, but holy crap, being that wealthy, good-looking and famous, and banging every cute waitress around the country just because he could? Not especially smart.

I believe that it is technique that gives him the head speed more than strength. He has so much wrist and elbow in it, and a golf club weighs a fraction of what a baseball bat does. I don’t think strength training would add much, but I don’t know.

Like I said, drive for show and putt for dough. If he has good control with that drive, spending the effort developing a short game, I think, would lower his handicap more.
