OMG EVERYONE NEEDS A 533i...WOW

Well I got a ride into school today and over to the mechanics and finally picked up the 533. OMG you guys that told me I would love the 533 are right! It's got so so much power you step on it and your GONE! I even had it side ways at the car wash when I let the clutch out a little fast. only 2 windows work right now and the sunroof is frozen shut but the a/c does work. Got a little drive shaft noise coming out of first. I even took her up to 90 on a little road. WOW! Once I get the PO's amp and cd player out I will be set. I even took it to 5,750rpm a few times just to see the massive power.
I will post pics once I find my digital camera.

Nice Dan. Glad to see you are finally able to drive it.

I had a 1977 530I for about 6 months many years ago, real fun car. and pretty quick too.

I could tell you're thrilled to bits ...

Do you still have some drive shaft noise coming on?

only when I let the clutch out quick its a clunk clunk and then its gone it does it everyonce in a while.
Ali,
I still have both of them. the old one is sitting at teh mechanics missing an exhaust, starter, clutch slave and master cylinder, and both fuel pumps.
I plan to get running in the next few months and go from there.

The Klunking noise you are hearing is probably the Guibo (a.k.a.- Flex Disc)

Dan,

Now you know why I repeatedly babble about that 535iS ('87) that my parents almost bought me.

Alas, the idea of a less expensive, less powerful, cheaper-to-insure Turbo Volvo owned me.

Keep us updated.

Well here is the first update. I took the amp and cd player out that was installed by the po and put my Blaupunkt in. took 4 hours cause I could not find a color code digram that was right, and plus I rewired the power wires so it's no longer real tinney german wire. I hope to get my amp and capacitor in saturday as well as getting the windows to work. The sunroof seems to have been sealed shut for some reason I think the seal has gone bad.
I took some friends for a real short ride and they were stunded! this ugly 20 year old car has power. I pulled over to run around and let the clutch go and watched the rear slide around with them in the car AS well as a little tire spinning coming back into the parking lot.
Also took it around some corners by my work today in the parking lot (long strechs with nice sharp turns) WOW! 2nd gear going into the turn punching it out of the turn (rear end slides out) into third and back into second before the next turn I had fun! It's just as fast as the 500 but more nimble and a little easier to control the power due to the fact it's a stick.

I had an agressive driving encounter with a manual 533i last thanksgiving day. I was driving my 1998 ford crown vic police interceptor (235hp V8) and me and this guy were neck-and-neck at WOT (wide open throttle). Didn't appear to be a slow car, as my crown vic would do 130 all day long.

I well today was a Friday the 13th..... The driveshaft raddel has gotten worse I think it's a u joint. I'm going to let the mechanic take care of it in the morining because I don't have the time this weekend. I let one of my friends drive the car today and hey was in shock of it's power. It was kinda wet leaving school and my friend snapped a picture of my car sideways I will post all of my pictures once the roll is done.

Turbodiesel,
It rides great at high speeds, I'm sure like your crown vic

I was already hit in the target parking lot thursday by some lady just left a white mark on my bumper but she drove away. An employee getting a cart saw her back into it and drive away and came in and had the owner of a teal BMW paged.

Ditto on that. I park my car far away and still have people next to it. Our 97 Camry has a dent in the back and door dings all over it. It was really nice when we first got it, not any more. We'll probably fix the dent after ski season. At this point (We've had body work done to it three times in 18 months) I don't care anymore, as long as I keep it running right. I'm not the kind of guy to take up two parking spaces. I'll just park far away and walk, it's always good for me (To walk) anyway.

IT'S A TRUE AUTOBAHN CRUSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I fell in love with it today, After I went the mechanic today I came home I-4 coming of the ramp in 5th I pushed the pedal a little and she went flying. long sotry short 90-100 all the way home for a couple miles even had her at 120 non stop (more to go but I got nerves) They drive great at high speeds just like the 500 matter of fact but not as smoth or quiet. the roar of the engine was like music.
BTW
Bad center bearing 60 bucks to fix and 30 in labor. It gets done monday after school.

In 1983, my father brought home what was then a new leaf for BMW. It was a charcoal grey BMW 533i, one the first ones to come to the states. See, BMW had long been smogged and bogged with emissions, CAFE and the like. Their futile attempts produced the 2.8 Eta motor, known as the "E." The "I" was to be their new car, getting back to performance... Only two options came on the car, metallic paint and Auto transmission, our car had both. It was perhaps one of the fastest car this family has ever owned. With only 188 hp, this car had something going for it! But with one caveat, you could spit in front of the thing and it was bound to spin. Those Michelin TRX tires were horrible, eventhough they were the best (claimed) performance tires of their day... Though the car had horrible idel problems that would lead to an entire short block replacement, along with the terrible domestic manners, it was a great car. Few 5-series car have matched it since.
