Garage Door
I have been home for break only a week. In that one week our garage door has opened on its own 4 times. At first we thought the housekeeper had forgotten to close it even though she said she hadn't. Then, last night after we came home from dinner the garage door was wide open and we know for sure we had closed it.
What would cause a door to do this? Our door reprograms itself constantly. We keep the door on lock now, but its a real pain and a real scare especially to learn your garage door has been open half the night. |

Check the batteries in all of the remotes. Likely one remote has dying batteries.

If it's not the batteries , check the down pressure sensor adjustment and also that nothing is getting in the way of the photo-eye (if yours has one). We came home one night in the fall to find our garage door wide open , the only thing I could figure was a leaf blowing across the eye just as it was almost closed , now I watch the door close completely before I back out of the driveway

if you adjust the down pressure, be sure to follow the calibration procedure. it's supposed to open up when it hits something (like a foot or a child!). when it's too sensitive it can open after closing. OTOH too much downpressure can be dangerous. in my openner, the test was to lay a 2x4 underneath - it's supposed to open when it hits that...

Did any kids in the neighborhood get a remote controlled car for Christmas. I did when I was a kid and everytime I used it in the front yard the neighbor across the street's garage door would open. Might not be a bad idea after you've checked what the others have suggested that you also change the codes on your doors. Sometimes people drive through neighborhoods with a number of door openers and try fiddling around with different codes until a door opens.

If you have the newer opener with the "rolling code" system, it's nearly impossible to get false openings by someone else's remote.
If you have an older unit, someone nearby may have set their DIP switches to the same settings as your own. But that would mean someone nearby purchased an old unit...hardly likely. So I think what others had said about the sensors and pressure adjustments is probably on the mark.
