I need an auto shipping company please!

I have used A to Z auto shipping www.atozauto.com in the past, but they're only brokers, and well, they're ok. but not great.

Then I used AAA advantage www.carmoves.com and it was a terrible experience (thanks Buddhakip! ).

So yea, anybody got a good shipping company they know of? I paid on average $700 to ship from TX to CA. Door to door.

Another one's Dependable Auto Shippers: http://www.dasautoshippers.com/

I was told that the price to ship my 300D from the DFW area to the San Francisco Bay Area was about $500. I've heard really good things about these people. This is the route that I would have gone, but I decided that I didn't want to buy the car sight unseen, so I flew out there and drove the car back instead. I think the total cost (including airfare) was about the same as shipping it would have been.

Good luck!

I don't get it.. What's wrong with driving it?

Living in England, you can get to anywhere in around 10 hours.

Do these people drive the cars, or 'ship' or fly them or what?

Pentoman, I thin california is probably about the size of England. Or maybe not... At any rate the USA is much bigger!
What they do it put the car on a truck (the ones that carry 15 cars or so at a time) annd then drop their load off on the way to me. I'm usually the last one to get my car (west coaster ).

England??

Pentoman,
No Offense but your entire COUNTRY it seems is not quite as large as my STATE(TEXAS) here in the US. No need to give a history/geography lesson as I'm sure you're aware of how the US is broken up. But Driving distances in England,Germany France and other nations seem to pale in comparison to the sort of cross country drives we do here. The distance that Dr. ///AMG was referring to is a minimum of 1400miles or 2258Kilometers. Thats 24 hours at the national speedlimit of 70mph I've driven "nonstop" Houston to Washington DC 24hrs straight throught with my wife driving 4-6 of the 24. So that's why there is a propencity to fly out to get a car and then drive it back or have someone simply deliver it for us to avoind that dreadfully boring drive. Mile after mile, hour after hour......Flash back...I'm going to go lie down now

But you have a 500E..!! Seriously, maybe because I'm young and have nothing else to do, I enjoy long journeys in the 190E so much, I'd quite love to do this.. hell, somehow I even enjoyed Washington to New York recently in a Ford Windstar LX (could've been the 5 other people in the car, though).

If I bought a new Mercedes, I'd definitely take the option where you fly to Stuttgart, pick it up, then drive it back to England, rather than just picking it up at the dealer.

FWIW, it took me 4 days of nonstop driving (except time to sleep; basically driving until I got tired enough to not want to risk falling asleep on the road and finding the next motel, sleeping, and getting up and hitting the road) to get my 300D from the DFW area to here (with a detour to Austin and San Antonio so that TXBill and leathermang could run a compression check on her). I'm happy that I had done it, even though it meant that both me and Robin had to skip two days of class. It was definitely an adventure. While I would do it again if I had the spare time, I don't blame someone for wanting to ship a car, at this point.

My biggest regret is that I didn't have more time and $$ to take the trip in less of a hurry...there were some things that I would have loved to stop and see (Davis/Montham AFB in Tuscon comes to mind) that I may not have the opportunity to see again anytime soon. C'est la vie; at least my car's here and running happily

Another vote for DAS. Minivan from VA to CA for $825 depot-to-depot.

FWIW, I think problems with shipping a car are 99+% caused by the loser jockeys that take joyrides to/from the depots, not the truck ride between depots. If you're going with a door-to-door service, take careful note of the odometer reading before and after.
