Insomnia
So it is 4am and I am staring at the computer screen. I have had so much school work, I haven't been sleeping lately. Well, I have, just not much. I don't get tired. And now it is to the point where I have work, can't do it, and can't sleep. I am definately wasting time. I need help, any suggestions?

Hey you still up? :)
Too bad you're in Bloomington Illinois. Still you could drive to Peoria and hit the casinos. Can't be too far of a drive.

Might be time to see a doctor and get prescribed some "sleep enhancement" medications...or perhaps the over-the-counter stuff will work fine.
Stress has a way of killing regular sleep patterns...I thought college pressures were stressful...wait until you become a "head of household" in a precarious political and economic climate! A full-night's rest is practically non-existent for myself, or my wife!

You're lucky that you don't get tired...I'm dead-tired most of the time, but still have troubel sleeping...
No medical insurance, so I can't see a doc about getting sleeping pills, either...Definitely NOT fun...especially since I have to get up at 4am or so on Saturday, for a very long day that'll likely end at 2 or 3am... |

Yea, I blame stress. As for hitting the casinos, they are only 30 mins away, BUT, I won't be 21 for another 6 months. Why can't the US adopt age of majority laws like Canada? 19 and you can roll the dice with a cocktail in hand

I used to have a problem with not being able to fall asleep, until I discovered melatonin. I pop one an hour or so before wanting to go to sleep. Not sure if it's just a placebo effect, or if it really works, but it works for me either way. At least until lately. I do a bit too much caffiene thru the day, and it's coming back to haunt me now. I can fall asleep, but don't sleep very well. That's the next obstacle to overcome. need to de-caffinate my life.

I've found that the best way to get a good night's sleep is to get enough excersise during the day. That way you're genuinly tired when you go to bed and will get a fitfull sleep.
I stay away from sleeping pills because IMHO they don't give you a restfull sleep, but an artificial one. Just because you're not awake doesn't mean that you are really getting a good rest. Melatonin has worked well for me in the past. Be sure that you buy some with a decent amount of the herb; a lot of companies sell melatonin in very small quantities to keep the cost down. Herbalife is a good source. |

I used to hit the gym everyday. Then I got busy. Now I am just too tired to. I just lay there, staring at my roommates bunk. Seeing the doc today

I know how you feel. A couple weeks ago I was in CA for about a week and wasn't able to get to the gym. After returning, I've been fighting a cold and haven't gone because I don't want to wear out my body.
Whenever I don't go to the gym for more than three days in a row I have less energy and feel more stressed. I think I'll go tomorrow regardless and just make sure to drink a lot of water all day. As long as you don't have a fever you can still workout, just be extra careful of dehydration. Now, if they could bottle those endorphins instead of having to actually workout to feel their benefits.....
