S Class Heritage
Can anyone recommend some good sites that explore the history of the Mercedes S class? I'd really like knowing about the designers and engineers of these cars. Over on the BMW boards posters talk nonstop about Bangle, but I've never seen an MB board that mentions MB designers, etc
Who is chief designer for the current models of MB? |

BUY THE BOOK MERCEDES BENZ S CLASS by Geoffrey Howard WORTH EVER PENNY!!!!! I bought one of ebay a few years ago for like 20 dollars and have read it countless times. It's intreasting because when published the w126 was ground breaking stuff and they go on and on about the new things they have on them

Rudolf Uelenhaut was chief desinger of the 116 cars, I believe. Paul Brauqc designed the 108/9 cars. Sacco also deigned the CLK cars, in addition to the 126. The 116 was the real masterpiece.

TXbill:
You are correct! My mistake(s). Who DID pen the 116 cars? Off topic, but I prefer the 116 to the gullwing. Always thought they (gullwings) were ugly. What can I, I have strange tastes! I hope this thread sees some activity, as it is a topic which has not been discussed yet, to my knowledge. Mike |

Paul Bracq did design the W 115 and worked at the W 108/W 109.
He left to work for BMW in the early 70ties and designed the turbo (which set the design for the later M 1) and the BMW E 12. He later worked for Peugeot and designed the dashboard of the Peugeot 205. As far as I know, he also did some work at the TGV for the french railroad. Kind regards Eberhard |

BTW:
The guy pointing the finger at his nose is Bruno Sacco himself, visiting our stands at a vintage car show: Kind regards Eberhard |

I'm not shure about the Pagode. He might have done it. At least he designed the bullet proof dividing wall for the fintail taxicab
![]() The Pagode roof line was an idea of Bela Barenyi, that is for shure. Kind regards Eberhard |

Out of curiosity, why is he touching his nose?
I wonder if it's the way German peoples point to themselves. In Japan, If someone is talking to you, like from across the room, and if you're not sure they are talking to you, you touch your index finger to you noise, and say "me?", or "are you talking to me?" In American, we point to our chest with our index finger. It's something I could never get used to. It seemed funny when the Japanese would touch their nose. Reminds me of a sobriety test.
