And another thing.....
Sorry to hear about the Audi owner that lost his 4KQ to a rice punk. As an Audi owner myself, I would have had SERIOUS words with his mom and him. Parts for those cars are getting hard as anything to find and if they get into ANY type of accident most ins. companies total them off because they cost too much to repair versus value of the car. Bums me out, man. I'm just glad that it didn't cause someone to lose their life.....

I say there should be a law to force kids who drive rice(mostly asian teenager in my area), to have their licenses revoked if their parents drive a "rice" car, blacklist them from insurance coverage, and force them to take public transit. This silliness has gone WAY too far.

Hey man, sorry to hear of the accident. I hope you recover well. Thank God you were in a Mercedes. Now you can look forward to getting a new car, for the alternative is not as desirable... Do they drive Benzes in heaven? I think not...

Mushedroom,
Get well soon and keep your spirits up!! Just think of all the different Mercedes possibilities you've got now!! I sustained serious whiplash when I was hit while sitting at a stoplight in my 240-D a few years ago. Make sure to get a good chiropractor so everything gets back in line; it definately made a difference for me! |

MANY THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT AND KIND WORDS!!!
I'd like to say a very warm thank you to all of you members who have been sending their best wishes and condolences. i do appreciate the unity and kindness!!!
unfortunately i do have an impending battle with the Insurance Adjuster which will probably end up yielding me almost nothing for what i paid or put into the car...my attorney has told me that there is a slim chance of upping the value but my car did have 171K on the speedometer...ugh and unfortunately insurance companies don't car about any of the other added on or cosmetic upgrades that are done... i'm currently in physical therapy and though my left arm is weak, i'm able to function fine. my lower back and neck and shoulder and whole left side remain stiff but hopefully that will all change soon...medical center parking is such a bi*ch talk about getting raped... any ways... please if anyone can offer some printable evidence that would help my car's value upgrade...please email it to me or post it or let me know where i can find it... thank you so much for all of your help! you guys and this forum make the pain a bit more bearable. Rich

glad to hear you are relatively well all things considered.
i didnt know the CE was so valuable, i didnt compare the two, but im sure a 300e would be much less. i had no idea. this is from nada tonite: i used 300ce with 175K. Used Car Consumer Prices July 16, 2003 1992 Mercedes-Benz MERCEDES-BENZ Coupe 2 Door 300CE 175,000 miles Low Retail Avg Retail High Retail Base Price $14,025 $16,175 $17,525 Mileage Adjustment 175,000 miles subtract: ($800) ($800) ($800) Total Price $13,225 $15,375 $16,725 i am not generally so, but with the insurance companies you MUST be a hard-assed prick. let them know right up front that you know what the value of your ride is, and expect to be fully compensated. if they have already "totaled" your car, at least they cant try to rape you by getting it repaired with shoddy workmanship or inferior parts. you MUST stand firm. get well soon, and look forward to a new ride, it took me six months to find a new car when my 300e was hit and totaled. |

On the so-called "ricer" problem...
Recently on DIRECTV pay-per-view there were 4 different shows available that involved street racing. Two involved motorcycle stunts (standing on the tank, riding wheelies down the highway, endos, etc.). The other two involved street racing. One was a quasi-documentary of the Gumball 3000 rally, the other was just miscellaneous home video of spoiled, affluent young people being reckless. I decided to go ahead and watch them... What struck me most was that none of the "ricers" actually knew how to drive. Oh sure, they could all do big, smokey burnouts and donuts, but that's about all. There were a few segments where dorks in Subaru Impreza RS's and WRX's, or Mitsubishi Lancers drove around a dirt course in what looked like their back yard. They seemed to think they were Colin McRae, trying to do a controlled 4-wheel drift. Sadly, all they managed to do was nearly kill every innocent bystander and destroy their cars. They had a couple of mintues of actual autocross footage, and it was completely pathetic. But then, these are the same people who are trying to turn "drifting" into a sport, so what does one expect? Today the attitude seems to be that going fast is cool, and that taking risks for that "adrenaline rush" is cool. It's a pathetic cliche and the kids are falling for it. I hope somehow the bar is raised and it becomes cool to actually know how to control your car, whether it's a Pinto or an F50. I'm dreaming, of course, but I'd love for skill to take precedence over flash. Time for the kiddies to stop showing off and show some skillz...

Glad that you are allright in the wreck. Hopefully the idiot in the honduh will be marred for life.
As for fighting with the insurance. If you still have the receipts for everything done to that car, collect them, and take 'em to the insurance company. Point out that these items will require replacing along with the vehicle as you intend to find an exact replacement for the wrecked car. |

You could buy back your car from the Ins Co and graft a rear or side totaled 500E onto it? Just a thought Seriously, hope you are feeling OK and healing quickly. |

Rich,
Sorry to hear about this whole situation. I guess most importantly your ok and the car did its job. I'm sure you'll find other cars out there, take the time and look for one. If you need my help to see a local to me car let me know and I'll do my best to help out. Good luck on a speedy recovery and be stern with the insurance adjusters be sure to make them realize your pain and suffering.

Something I have picked up on from the E28 BMW boards is that if you can find other cars for sale in the same area to reflect the value of the car and go to the insurance company you can use it as a tool to bargin. Espically good with the KBB giving some cars no value at all.
Glad to hear you are ok and good luck on all you have ahead |
