Question favorite pickle?

here's something non-political, non-race, non-religous, non-war oriented.
What's your fav dill pickle? I used to get Farman's dills, but they changed their recipe, and don't taste the same. There's a couple locally made brands that are awesome, but are hard to find. I grew up eating Del Monte Dills in california, but can't get those up here in the northwest. I may have to resort to trying to make my own.

If I can't get my Mother-in-law's, then Vlasic pickles. Cold.

A large onion cut in wedges.

A tall glass of ice-cold buttermilk.

Cornbread crumbled into the buttermilk.

Bit of black pepper.

Ahhhhh.

You sound like my dad. he used to come home from work, grab a glass of buttermilk and the jar of pickled herring, and the pickles. His fav sandwich was cheese and onion. Nothing else, just cheese and onion between two slices of bread.

Buttermilk and pickled herring breath!!

At first I thought the thread was about the Indian pickles. Those things are great.

For these, Vlasic is my favorite commercial brand.

Pickle

Superpickle!

The deli where I grew up had a jar of festering pickles made from full size cucumbers that were amazing. long gone now.

Claussen garlic dills, refriged.

my grandmother used to make pickles that came out with the consistency of wet bread. The rind became almost un-biteable. They get the vote for worst pickles (no disrespect to the dearly departed)

Ba-tampte 1/2 sours. TLJ likes them too! Almost as good as celery with hot sauce.

My wife's.
Made from Mom's recipe but with an extra clove of garlic and a couple small Chili peppers. Awesome crisp, great flavour. can't eat any others anymore.

I second the vote for Batampte for a somewhat mass-produced brand.

Aside from those, the best I've found were from a Kosher deli near my old office. You just grabbed as many as you wanted out of this huge wooden barrel. Man are those tasty!

I like sweet pickles better than Dills or Koshers. I won't turn up my nose at a "sour" pickle, but much prefer the sweets.
Also maybe a little local favorite (at least when I was growing up) is pickle and cheese sandwiches. Haven't had one for awhile. If you want to try it use buttered bread to make it, especially if you aren't going to eat it right away. Otherwise the bread gets soggy from the pickle juice. This can be made with sweet or sour pickles.
I prefer a sharp cheese for making this with, but mild is OK, especially with a sweet pickle. With a sour pickle you almost need a sharp cheese.

Vlasic makes good zesty dills, gotta be garlicy and sour, Klausen Kosher dills are good too.

For the homemade, pickled green tomatoes and pickled snap beans are great. Chinese pickled garlic is an awesome treat.

But best of all are my pickled eggs. I only use about 15 habaneros and a whole head of garlic for a batch of two dozen eggs.
