Or how about knocking out the red star with a BB gun at one of those county fair booths? So far, I have done it twice and took home two cupie dolls. I figure I've got about $30 apiece in those prizes.

This is gun control:

@ 7-8yds flapping in the wind. 5 shots with a 10mm Witness.

Volk, have you been over to The High Road? Its an excellent discussion forum where you will find many with your point of view, including myself. Tell them Moparmike sent you. We also welcome anyone with an opposing viewpoint for reasoned debate. It is moderated more than here, so watch your mouth.

"Assault Weapon" is a bogus term. I can assault you with a pencil, a rock, or a gun, or my car. As for the VPC and the Brady Bunch, they need to learn some facts and stop redefining "assault weapon" and "children" to "any semi-automatic weapon" and "0-24yr olds" which includes gang members. The AWB and the Brady Bunch has inspired me to buy an AK-clone.

Edited to add: WHy the bloody hell wont that picture show? I did the img tags and all it shows is a link.

I'd like some numbers

Does anybody know what the statistical relationship is between gun related crimes and gun types?

Whenever you find these stats they are always skewed and biased from whomever compiled them. The real bottom line is their irrelevancy. You could find stats to support whatever position you want to take. Remember, guns don't kill people - other people use them to. I have several weapons, and only one of them has ever killed people. When new laws come into being, it only affects lawful gun owners and has absolutely no effect on the criminal element. After all, any one of us could leave our homes right now and within a couple of hours collect a variey of illegal drugs. ( Some may not even have to leave their homes ) The real root of the problem is a topic for another thread: truth in sentencing. That said, take a look at the link below (last paragraph under "National Homicide Trends"), and notice that the majority of homicides involve handguns, and the highest involvement in gun related fatalities is comprised of people too young to legally buy handguns under current laws.

That gun should be tried and executed. It is evil.

Are you serious?

The weapon in question is the reason most of Europe doesn't speak German, and the reason we don't speak Japanese. Some consider it the single most important weapon in the history of the United States, and certainly WWII. It is my M1 Garand, built by the Springfield Armory in October of 1940. It's the first semi-automatic rifle ever issued to an army, and only the second weapon designed for the 30.06 cartridge. Granted its report was the last thing many people heard, but would you rather have had the alternative?

Sorry, tongue pushed so far in cheek that it must've garbled my message.

I'd love to have an M-1. I shot one years ago and found it a sweet machine.

IIRC, the Garand was originally designed in .270, and not in .30-06 like the 1903 Springfeild. Only after MacAurthur's badgering and refusal to adopt the rifle unless it was chambered in .30-06 was it chambered in that caliber.

Like I said, if I recall correctly.

Jack O'Conner's opinion was why my first rifle was a bolt action .270, forty years ago. He was right about that. I recall an article he'd written comparing the relative value of a .416 Rigby double with a .458 Win magnum that made me want one of each. Why a 17 yr old southern boy would need a rhino gun was not part of the question. What a fine writer he was.
