I've seen Gattica but it's science fiction.
No one considers identical twins any less human beings because they are identical.
Or, are you saying it is ok to enslave twins?
Have you seen Blade Runner? I thought that film was a very interesting study in the value of human life...

Making something property completely side steps any perception of obligation, morality, responsibility, rights. I’d even bet once they got good, they’d make the clones look less than human, so that we wouldn’t likely have feelings for them. Except the whore clones, they’d be designer-babes. Sterile, of course, and never have periods or the emotional swings that goes with.

I just got a crisis call (ironically, it's a blown server) so since I'm without a clone I get to drive across town. Back in a couple of hours....

I'd buy a Michael Moore, just to enslave him and have him clean my toilets

Then gimmie a Hilary.....she gets K.P.

My buddy, Dennis Kucinich, I think I'll make him a barber and cut the hair of my cloned Donald Trump!

Would "less attractive" people ever be cloned? If not, why not?

Narwhal - Michael Moore is on his way over. But, I'm making him walk (he needs some exercise). As for food on his trek to your neck-o-the-woods, I'm only giving him gift coupons to Subway....got inspired by 'Jared'

kerry,

I think it is only fair.....the forum has been used by you for your class to spark debate/ideas, etc.

Well, I think your class should have the opportunity to interact with the Open Discussion directly via a hookup in the classroom. What do you think?

p.s. Any cute/hottie students must post pics

Surely, if I connected the class to this forum, I would be charged with corrupting the youth.
Turns out there were two twins in the class. Made the discussion more interesting.

Here's a link to a recent article arguing that controlling nature thru genetic manipulation is not a good idea.

http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/2004/04/sandel.htm

I think when the first human deliberately planted a seed in the ground instead of letting it fall 'naturally' from the plant, there was a priest standing by warning of the terrible consequences that were about to befall the society.
