Smoking kills more people in this country than any of those other things.

Years back and recently out of school, I would smoke a couple a day. I worked a full time job and at a restaurant which was about 65 hours a week. It was simply the stress.

That lasted about a year, then I just stopped and never did it again.

My late father smoked up to five packs of Camels a day and would routinely pop the filters off beforehand. Seeing him in the hospital with a nurse sticking a tube down his throat to suck the phlem out so he could breathe is enough to prevent me from ever thinking about it again. And even as sick as that, he would ask me to smuggle cigarettes into the hospital for him!

Un-apologetic smoker but also try to be a polite smoker. Half a pack a day (Camel Lights) and I started when I was old enough to know better. I'll quit when I'm ready because trying to quit prior to being ready is futile and only serves as negative reinforcement.

I figure I better quit before having kids.

Yeah, right (to her, not you)

I do not believe that is a valid argument. Some risks, one could argue are necessary. Getting to work is. Getting in the shower is a risk but I do that as well. Smoking is not necessary, it is something a person chooses to do. Like playing Russian Roulette.

Besides, last I heard, far more people die from tobacco related illnesses that from cars.
