2 out of 6

Hello,

The other day I made a left hand turn at a traffic lite and my 1998 ML 320 started running it seems on 2 cylnders. There is no power and a strange sound from engine like a gurgling noise. The yellow check engine lite also came on at the same time. I have about 86k on car but it has always run great. I got home ok and checked it the next morning, lite still on but ran ok till it warmed up then lost power etc. I called the dealer who said something about a sensor and bring money. Is there anything I can check or do about this myself?

Mike

Is it running well now?

Does it run well above 4000rpms with the pedal to the metal?

Look at your air filter to intake ducting. Get the codes read.

Hi Steve,

No it doesn't run well now. I haven't tried the 4000 rpm idea but I will right now. I looked at the air filter it is dusty and needs replacing.

I don't know what get reads means.

If it doesn't run well then DON'T bother with the 4000rpm test. That was meant for a engine that seemed good otherwise. It would indicate fueling capacity. If you aren't running properly the codes need to be read and maybe the fuel pressure tested.

Ok, I couldn't get up to 4000 rpm. Would you tell me how to read the codes? Is that something I can do?

Thanx,
Mike

Autozone in some areas does this, although I can't suggest driving the car if it isn't running properly.

Some parts stores will loan a code reader, but the proper answer is to have a professional look at it. BTW I don't consider AZ to be a professional.

Thanx, Steve I will call around to see who has a code reader. If it's ok after I get that done I will let you know results.

Thanx,
Mike
