Removing Rear Muffler on 300E: I did it

I just thought I'd post my opinion on this.

I went to a muffler shop and got the guy to remove the rear muffler on my 300E, but leave the middle one in place. He fabricated a pipe, and welded some tips on. I tingled when they started it up.

I love the sound. It's not too loud, but its not quiet. It rumbles like a v8 at idle (friends have asked me if my car was a v8), but purrs when the rpm's rise. And at highway speed, the road noise drones out the exhaust. I still listen to my radio and can enjoy a quiet ride with the windows up.

Anyone looking for a louder car, but hate the buzzy tingy sound of those 4 cylinder "race" mufflers, this is what I would recommend.

I greatly prefer the nice, quiet ride I get in the TE with both mufflers.

Loud cars are for those who want to be deaf (as you are gonna be, it's noiser than you think).

I wonder if removing the rear muffler and changing the back pressure can hurt your engine?

If you can lip read well, chances are you have significant hearing loss, unless you are like I am and suffer from overly sensitive hearing. Doesn't take much noise for me too lose all conversation (I normall wear ear plugs when out to clubs, even fairly quiet ones).

If you cannot understand people unless they are looking at you, you definitely have hearing loss.

This gets to be considerably less fun with age....

I was kidding, i'm young, and have an easier time hearing things than my brother does. And he's the one who complains about movie theaters being too loud.
