190e still stalling! Please help, Steve or Anyone.
I have a 1989 W210 190e 2.0 (similar to 2.3 model) in Australia.
Replaced OVP, Idle Control Valve and Fuel Relay Pump. Engine still cuts off when the tranny down shifted to lower gear and the rpm becomes erratic and decides not to go up again below 500rpm. Could this be a tranny problem? I also noticed that my speedometer and trip meter works only when the car is still cold and stop working when the car has warmed up. This is when the stalling problem starts - when the speedo isn;t working. Am I looking at a serious prolem here - electrical, tranny, cable? Please help! |

I have had a problem once or twice (quite a while ago) with the speed generator on the back of the speedo. It plays a part in decel cut-off and idle control. The speedo is mechanical but the speed sensor on the back of the instrument converts it to an electronic signal. I only would consider this due to the symptoms you expressed.

Speed Sensor
Thanks very much for the quick reply.
Is the sensor attached to the speedo unit - need to replace the whole thing? Or is it a seperate unit altogether? How does it look like? If I pull the instrument cluster out, how do I get to this sensor? |
