Cool Relay : Stage 1

Hey does anyone know where the: Stage 1 Relay is? This realy is Multi-function relay used for blinker : hazard warning : heated rear window : wiper ...... I'm having problems with all these working sometimes and sometimes not, and its bad when your car breaks down in the middle of the street and you can't even turn the emergancy lights on, or turn the rear defrost on to melt the frost off...

The day these items stopped workign on my car, there was a burning smell, like burned rubber. I can't seem to find where this relay is called, and its poorly named, just relay! where there are many others on my C220. If anyone knows the location of this relay or what my problem might be, please let me know, thanks.

Exclamation

WHAT year model?? The relay is the rear of the fuse box area. Depending on the model year, 94-95 uses a 201-821-02-47 & the 1996 car uses 202-820-46-26!

Talking Mb Doc...

Hey thanks for the reply MB DOC. The car is a 94 C220. I was wondering is the realy in the fuse box in the trunk or under the hood? and I didn't seem to under stand what you meant by, in the fuse box area. I'm having a hard time figuring out where this realy is, and your help is all I can really work on. Thanks!

Wink

The fuse box is under the hood (next to brake booster), & the relays are in the rear section of that box under the black plastic cover! Good luck

Question still looking

Hey, I took a look last night, and I've alway known where the fuse box is. However the relays I still can't find in that area. On my fuse box, there's the snap off top, and I was looking at it last night, and there's the second half which seems like a lid that's been screwed on. I was wondering, is that the location your talking about? My engine fuse box only has fuses in it, the small fuses and big fuses, but no relays. So is it on the other half of the fuse box that has been sealed up with screws? thanks

Trueog, yes you need to remove second half of fuse/relay box, 6 screws from memory, multi-function relay is in lower half, also with your hard starting have you replaced the over voltage protection relay?? If it has a part number of 000 540 52 45 you need to replace it pronto.

Thumbs up thanks for the reply

Hey thanks for the reply. That makes alot more sense in helping me find the relay. I was afraid of opening the screws and messing up seals if the relay wasn't there. As for the OVP, no i havn't infact changed that. In the other posting you have with 'thegirlilove', i finally discouvered what that relay does...lol. I'll inspect that relay also and see if the next time my car stalls, I undo the fuse and reconnect if it makes a difference. Thanks for the tips.

changed it!!!

CHanged it finally!!! Thanks for the help guys. My car's turn signals are working again, and also, my interior lights bright up better to now. I had no idea there was a connection between the relay and the lights. Also I recommend everyone unscrew there fuse boxes and open the compartment on the side which is connected to it!!!! That's where all the relays are. When I was changing mine, i noticed one relay had its FUSE BLOWN!!! Normally we'd never check to see if everything is fine. Its about 6 or more screws you have to open, and everything is there. Everyone should check theres before they pay big money for a dealer repair when it might just be one of these hidden relays.
