Out of curisoty, what is the furthest distance from the car you can use your remote entry? My remote for the ML seems to work from a fairly good distance from the car. But for my SL, I have to be right next to the car before the remote works. Does that sound right, or I have to have the dealer recalibrate my remote unit?

The distance can improve with fresh batterries. I would try that first.

Are these two cars the same technologies? My '96 E Class had an IR system that didn't work more than 30 feet at it's absolute best. As I recall, my '01 C Class has IR AND RF. It works from quite a long distance, maybe a 100 feet or so.
