Window switch gremlins
I have a 89 300E and over the weekend, first the passenger window would not operate, then this morning it came back to life. As that started working, the drivers side decided to quit. Is this a coincidence? or do I have some wires touching and shorting out. Never ever happened before. Is this a fuse or switch problem.
If it is the switch, how do I remove them from the console. Thanks. |

did you spill any liquids on the switches, since we don't have cup holders this is common ? it's probably the switches, easy to get and replace, send me an e mail with your fax number and I will fax over or send pdf file showing the manual showing how to remove this and changed switches, there are different fuses for each side

It can be a fuse, but since the problem 'fixed' itself, it is not a 'blown' fuse.
On, and it is not a short, since it is not a 'blown' fuse. Check the fuses for corrosion, spin them around a few times in the holder to clean it, or replace with a brass fuses. It can also be dirty contacts in the switches. [EDIT: This applies to a W26, yours may be different] You will have to remove the ashtray, coin holder and center console wood panel along with the switches. From that point, they unplug. I will encourage you to Search for more posts on fuse corrosion and console removal. Best Regards, Jim Last edited by Jim H; 02-22-2005 at 03:52 PM. |

BE VERY CAREFULL WITH THE WOOD and DO NOT FORCE IT. It is common for this wood to crack from the stress on being removed. Good luck
