Ask the dealer.

Year and model please. Mercedes don't have timing belts, they use chains. Was the dealer referring to the serpentine belt perhaps?

Assuming you have a S320, there is no timing belt on this car.
Again assuming....the serpentine belt costs approx. $50.00 + one hour of labour to replace it. |

I suggest finding another mechanic.
How many miles are on the car? You probably need to take a close look at the belt tensioner too.

Quote:
The squeeky noise you hear is most likely the alternator sliping on the serpentine belt. This is especially true right after start up because the starter just put a huge drain on the battery and the alternator works the hardest to top it back up. You probably also need a belt tensioner unless the belt is obviously bad. John Roncallo |

Your car has a timing chain, NOT a timing belt. No, a timing chain will not cause a squeel.
Your serpentine belt needs to be replaced probably. Check the tensioner and tensioner shock too.

There's a quick cheep easy test to see if it belt is squeaking: Pour some water on it while its running. If its the belt that's squeaking it will stop for a few seconds then come back when it dries off. If its a pulley it won't change. And if it is the belt a can of belt dressing can be a cheep temporary fix. Maybe even permanent, $50 plus labor can buy a lot of belt dressing.
