How to replace lifter and timing chain on 99 CLK430

Hi,

My name is Duong. I have a 99 CLK430. My lifter has noises in the morning and the dealer advised me to change them out (24). Is it hard to replace them? What's a good procedure to do so? Is it necessary to change the timing chain at the same time? While I'm there, is there anything else that make sense to replace at the time? Thanks for all the advices.

Duong

Hardly broken in.
Do a search on " lifter noise ", etc.
There should be quite a bit of info archived on this topic.
You'll find oil viscosity has a lot to do with lifternoise.
Also a good flush may be in order.
DO NOT do any serious mechanical work at this time !

Clk430 Lifter Noise

Tell us what oil you have been using. If it isn't Mobil 1 0W40 then change to that and drive it a few hundred miles. The noises may fade away. BTDT.

'flush' engine with 50% oil and 50% trany fluid (IDLE ONLY) for 5 min or so and use Mobil1 10-30w.

The Oil

Hi i think the proble is the oil like the other suggest you, this because i have the same car with 120.000 miles and i had some lift nois at start-up in the morning for 20 sec. I changed the oil and i put CASTROL TXT magnatec and the noise went away.
I think this will help you and hope you do not have to opend this engine before 250.000 miles...
Alberto
