transmission hesitation

I have noticed that on my 300e when you back it out early in morning and then shift in drive it feel like it changes ok, but when you step down on it you feel a moment of hesitation and something acts like it slides and catches and it takes off. It only does this once, and after that it is ok. The transmission never slips or acts unruly any other time, and always shifts fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

My 94 E420 has done this since I bought it at 62,000 miles. It now has 177,000, and no signs of worsening. I have tried both conventional and Red Line Synthetics. No difference. I sure would be curious to know whether anyone who has experienced this has been able to have it fixed, and how.

Wow!! I third this one!!!!!
Now at 80K; have had this exact issue since approx 65K, and then it got too damn cold outside for me to address it! I think it may be the differential mounts, but it is a bit odd that it happens only once (or twice) a day, just after that initial "cold" reverse and then the shift to drive. Clunk. You'd think that if it was the mounts, it would happen all the time!
I drove a 190E last year that did the same thing, too!

transmission hesitation

I changed the fluid and filter at approximately 6K miles ago. It looks great no contamination etc. I feel it has to be a problem in the shifting between reverse and drive. I have read about a spring, that I believe to be a possible culprit. They talked about it breaking. The import transmission manual in the trouble shooting section I found doesn't mention anything about this sort of problem, but this hesitation has been an issue. I just hope it hangs together unitl I can find the solution, and it doesn't disintegrate.

transmission hesitation

I pulled full maintenance on the transmission today. I went back with full synthetic transmission fluid. I just can't describe the difference the synthetic fluid makes in one of these cars. It is smooth as silk shifting, and going from reverse to drive is a whole new feeling. Mercedes dealerships don't pull the maintenace on certain areas like required I have been told. I am a firm believer in preventative maintenance. I know what can happen to one of these transmissions if a piston etc. is sticking etc. I feel it's a 100K transmission again with prescribed maintenace along the way. Again thanks for the help!!

I get this hesitation too. Nothing to worry about.

Although I need to change the tranny filter and fluid soon. I'll see if that does anything.
