The procedure is detailed in your owners manual and in many places under "FSS Reset"
Here's a link to one: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=108414&highlight=fss+reset For yours I believe it is: Stage 2 Basic Flexible Service Systems 1998 Stage 3 Advance Flexible Service Systems 1998 Engines: M-111 (4cyl) M112 (V-6) M113 (V-8) 104 (6cyl Twin cam) 119 (V-8) 120 (12 cyl) 606 (Diesel) 1 Turn electronic key in the steering lock position 2 2 Within 4 seconds, press button "O" twice 3 Note! The present status for days or distance is displayed. Within 10 seconds, turn electronic key in steering lock to position 0 4 Press and hold down "O", while turning electronic key in steering lock to position 2. The present status for days or distances is displayed once more. Keep holding down button"O" Note! After approx. 12 seconds a signal beep sounds and the display will show 10,000 miles or 15 000 km for other countries 5 Release button "O"

1 little-known prerequisite for resttting FSS, on all except the ML, is that you have to have the drivers door closed to do this, meaning get in and sit down and close the door.
Normally what works better is to turn the ignition on, push the button twice, THEN hold the button down and shut off the ignition, keep holding the button down and turn the key on again and be prepared to wait 10-15 seconds, then you'll see and hear it reset. Gilly

Thanks to Gilly's post (and the search function) I have finally reset the FSS counter on my '98 C230. I had used the procedure in my manual (exactly as stated in post 2 of this thread) several times (with the door closed) and it didn't work. The secret is to push and hold the "0" button while still in position 2 BEFORE turning back to position 0 and then keep holding while turning back to 2 again. Aparrently there is an error in the manual in this regard. I did not need to actually start the car. So the correct procedure (for these cars anyway) looks like:
Get in car and close door Turn key to position 2 (about 4 O'clock) Press and release "0" button twice, then press a third time and hold While still holding, turn key back to 0 While STILL HOLDING, turn key back to 2 again, KEEP HOLDING !! After around 10 seconds you will hear BEEP and display will show 10,000 (or possibly 15,000 or 20,000 for Canadian or other models). Mike
