98 slk230 error code

My check engine light came on yesterday. Had the code retrieved using Snap On Tools diagnostic computer, which came up as :

PO410 Air Injection Malfunction System Logic Chain

Does anyone know what this means? What part do I need to replace?

Thanks

You could start with a search on " po 410 " , or " air injection ".
There is a ton of information on it.
Btw., it's really not a serious code, so please don't leap off a tall building over it.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a separate air pump on the slk or does the supercharger act as the pump? Which is considered primary vs secondary? I've read many of the posted threads on po410 and air injection, and it looks like there is no clearcut method to diagnose the cause of the error code. Can anyone suggest the order in which I should start, besides the cheapest one first. The car starts and runs fine. There is some hesitation when I floor it. Cold start is no problem.

Thanks
Bob

Yes, as on my car, the S/C IS the airpump.
What happens is, on a cold start ( specific temperature range involved ), air from the S/C is diverted into the exhaust on start-up.
This reduces the catalytic converter warm-up time ( cutting emissions ).
While this air injection is taking place, the ECU ( computer ) is looking at the oxygen sensor, expecting to see a " Lean " signal.
If it does not see this, it will set a po 410 code.
Please note this is a simplified version.
I'm sure there is a lot more to it.
Same thing happened on my car last spring.
I tested as much as I could ( never did pin point the problem ) & kept erasing the code.
After about 4 weeks it just stopped doing it.
