107 L/R Motor Mount Difference?

It was brought up in the SL forum that that there is a subtle difference between the L/R motor mounts on a 107. The manual says that there is a painted dot difference. My aftermarket units seem identical. Other than the durometer of the rubber, is there a physical difference? I'm goint to assume that aftermarket units are the same with identical (and we hope, higher) durometer.

The difference is in the hardness of the rubber.

On my SL the left engine mount had one dot and an S3. The right engine mount had 2 dots and an S2. Im not sure of the meaning of the S's but thats the way they were.

I haven't looked at my wife's 560SL, so I can't answer this question well.

But...

I do know that the W126 (my 300SDL for example) had a "left" and "right" motor mount. The replacement for these is now the same for both sides. The explanation is that they had a "stronger" one on one side (I think it was left) and they found the other side was too weak. So the new part is the "stronger" one and is used on both sides.

I would guess they've done the same on the 107 also. If the old mounts look the same, are the same size & thickness, then they should interchange. Check with your parts supplier (if you haven't already done so) to see if there are two different part numbers or no. If there is just one, they are exactly the same now even though yours look different.
