1986 190e 2.3 V rear hydro-shocks replacement help needed
I have my 190e 2.3 16V up on stands right now to replace the parking brake shoes and hardware, and also want to change the rear self-leveling shocks.
With the car up off its wheels, should I be able to simply unbolt the banjo (I assume some oil will leak out, but not under pressure because the suspension is extended) and change the shock out like any other shock? I've read elsewhere that they are self bleeding once installed by having a bunch of people in the car while driving around - true? I'm going to change the filter for the system as well, should I replace the oil as well? What oil do I use, and what's the procedure for that? Thanks in advance!

Well, it is back off the jack for now, but can anybody help me? I do not want to have oil spraying all over the place.
Anybody?

I just changed my shocks on my 16V. Remember to pull hose off the connecter to the shock. When I loosened the banjo fitting off, fluid sprayed everywhere. With the hose off, i just put the bolt back on and the spraying stopped. The fluid you will need is the actual mercedes stuff. That is the only fluid I would buy at the dealership. Its hydraulic fluid. I would get a new filter for the suspension pump while you are at it too. Hope this helps a little.

So no matter what I do, I'll get oil spraying when I take the banjo bolt loose?
Thanks for the info on the fluid - I'll go get some. And I do have a new filter.

Just got back from the dealer. That oil is expensive! Came to something like $14 per quart. Oh well, its for a good cause.
