95 E320 Died While Driving
It is my turn to ask for help. My wife's 1995 E320 would not start when I took it out for an errand. I went home and picked up some tools to try to discover the problem. I read the engine computer (both with the button and socket #8 (HFM-SFI) and there were no codes to read. I pulled the intake tube and ignition cover to inspect the wires, everything looked normal. I bled some fuel from the fuel rail, some fuel escaped but it did not squirt. Checked the fuses, all were good (rotated them just for good measure). The engine started and I headed for home. Close to home, the car died cold, no coughing or stammering. The battery is strong and the starter works well.
My first guess would be a failed fuel pump. Anyone have any other ideas that could cause these symptoms? What test can I perform to help identify the difficulty?
