front wheel top-down play how much is normal?
1992 300D. W124.
When the car is lifted, I can feel play in front wheels, right wheel a little more. This is only when I grab top and bottom of the wheels with my hands. I feel the play and hear clicking sound when I shake the wheel. How much of such play is normal. The play is not 0.0x mm or inch range. It is a millimeter or more I guess. When I grab left and right of the wheel and shake, I do not feel play.

I think you are missing the measurement.
It is not by pulling the tire. It is an in/out board. The better techs even with lots of experience still use a dial indicator because the play is so small. Michael
