Camshaft Position Sensor

I'm in the process of replacing the water pump on my 90/300sl (104)(Ain't that rear top bolt a *****?). As per usual, I broke something in the process of my repairs. I pretty much snapped the camshaft position sensor off. My question is this. Will the car start and drive far enough to get to the dealership to get another? Is there potential for damage?

Many thanks in advance.

You misunderstood. I was wondering if I could drive to the dealer with the sensor disconnected, tools in hand, purchase the part and throw it in. It doesn't look too complicated.... What's the downside

Thanks for the shim tip.

If I am technically correct, the camshaft position sensor, coupled with the direct coil ignition system in the MB (and most modern vehicles) eliminated the old coil and distributor ignition systems of old. In other words, it won't run, much less start, without it.
