Help Testing Temperature Sensor

I need to test the temperature sensor that is right above the thermostat in the 1974-450-SLC. The wire is missing that should go to the IC.. I am going to open the harness in several places and try to find the wire. It is supposed to be a green wire and their are no loose wires in the area. Their was a blue wire but the book shows the only blue wire going from the regulator to the IC...Any ideas will be appreciated...I want to test the sensor while I have that part removed from the car...I guess I can always reinstall the sensor and start the engine and run a wire to a IC temp guage......Jim
