don't quite get it

Okay, I am relatively new to this forum, but have expirienced the following. I try to post very very detailed information and specify what troubleshooting I've done and what parts I replaced and it seems like I don't get much of a responce on a post like: 1981 Mercedes 380sl 107 stalling. I even put pictures.
However, posts like GOT HORSEPOWER or GOT GO FASTER get several pages of response?

What am I missing here besides patience?

Back in the early days of the internet, circa 1999-2000 most of the automotive forums had sharp guys who knew their stuff. That's probably why they got on the internet early.

Nowadays, and not just limited to this forum, I see less and less of the knowledgeable guys and more and more brain dead responses from people who don't know jack, assuming they can even communicate in intelligible English. Notwithstanding their basic lack of automotive knowledge, they don't understand 400 year old physics and are challenged by seventh grade math! Maybe it's a reflection of the abysmal decline of education quality over the last 30 years.

It's unfortunate, but as the older Mercs get cheap and change hands, the qualilty of the owners goes down. Bright, knowledgeable, well educated, and experienced people don't normally buy $2500 cars. I saw this happen to Cosworth Vegas a long time ago.

Furthermore, guys won't tap into the vast knowledge base on these forums. There's a sense of entitlement that someone should answer their question so they don't have to spend time searching even though the question may have already been answered a dozen times.

I've quit posting to three forums over the last year or so and am now down to two - this one and the National Corvette Restorer's Society Discussion Board, but I'm not sure if I'll be sticking with this one much longer.

That's the good and the bad of the internet. It's led to a huge polarization of information -- both the best and the worst info is available with a few keystrokes. It's fed an attitude of entitlement in us; we assume any information we want should be immediately available. When some of us were in school, we actually had to dig for the information we needed -- spending many hours in the library tracking down articles, finding periodicals, etc.

Today, people won't spend 15 minutes searching the archives of a web site...

thanks for the advice, I think that will clean up quite a few of my posts. I'm afraid that I've been rather obviously "green" over the past few weeks.

X2 this isn't a business, it's volunteer work, so to speak. There are NO reasonable expectations of resolution.

Think of it this way:
Do YOU check on the Peach Parts website every hour at work to see which technical problems you can solve for other people?

Is that the first thing you do when you get home from work?
when your rise in the morning? when your lunch break starts?
well WHY NOT?

ANSWER: Because you have a life to lead like everyone else.

If you absolutely positively MUST have an answer RIGHT NOW, then subscribe to one of the paying websites that answer all your questions.

If you really NEED an answer because you are stranded somewhere or the car is, say so and let people know in the Forum.

Please also make sure that you include all the relevant info.

I have seen posts like:

"My car is making a hissing noise is there anyone in the area that can help?"

but they don't describe the TYPE of car or the LOCATION.

Make sure people can find you and can answer the question.

And if necessary, bump it to get assistance.

There are ways to be more successful, but no one has a right to an answer here, it's all voluntary.
