He11 on Earth..TC stuck to Flex plate..

87 190D 2.5 needed a Rear main seal, I bit the bullet and started today, all was well until.......tried to separate the tranny and the engine and the Torque Converter stuck to the Flex Plate. Yes, I removed the 6 bolts. Now the tranny hasn't enough room to go back enought to clear the tranny input shaft to allow the tranny to fall free. AND I can't get the tranny re-engaged to the T/C. It look as if I gotta pull the engine., unless you guys have any suggestions. There is NO WAY to get anything in between the Flex palte and T/C. ARRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! BTw, the tranny was rebuilt about 16K ago by PO's shop. The T/C is painted blue, I am guessing some of this paint has adhered to the Flex plate.......

More heat........

after looking at the "flex plate" under my car, I get the feeling its a........MANUAL TRANMISSION FLYWHEEL! complete with T/C crammed in!
As I understand it, the auto flex plate is about 3/4 in thick, right??? Not solid. right? Well, whats in my car looks a LOT like a manny flywheel. Its about 4 in. deep, solid and encases about 80% of the width of the T/C. The question is: How the he11 do you shoe horn a T/C Manny flywheel??? drill it out? Use a smaller T/c? Do ya think the independant that reult the tranny 2 years ago hammed up the original flex plate and used a manny flywheel?? I feel like its the twilight zone!! Am I crazy? I think I've seen every thing now, geezs I need a beer.......
