How the F*** do you get these caliper pins out?!

On my 83 300d, I can't get the caliper pins out. I see no cotter pins in them, but the picns just won't drive out. i'm wondering if I have to split the caliper to get them out (not something I want to do, I'm sure). Any suggestions?

You really have to whack it for a while. When you manage to knock out one pin with a nailset or a blunted nail or a small bolt, then use the same pin to knock out the other pins. works great, cause the end is the same size. Be careful not to break the collar on the end though, as that is what causes the fit when you put it back in.

You can buy a punch at the local hardware store for a couple of bucks.

Inspect the caliper pins for the tapered ends (they have a barbed tip). To remove you need to hammer against the tip, then to reinstall, you hammer back in on the head side.

I sing old railroad workers' songs when I do this task...

I used a nail as a punch. I cut off the tip with pliers to make it blunt.

I believe you need a 4mm punch. Depending on your location road salt may be a factor. A few solid hits should get the pin moving, especially if you soak the pin with PB Blaster for a while.
