US PON is the arithmetic average of MON and RON. The typical difference between MON and RON is 8-10 so US gasolines are about 4-5 points lower than equivalent European gasolines that quote RON.
Europe's best premiums are rated about 98 RON, and ours are 93 or 94 PON. From a practical standpoint, they both offer about the same detonation resistance. Mercedes octane recommendations for US models are PON. Duke |
