How to replace light bulbs
I've got a 93 300SD (W140) and wondering
1. if you need to remove the driver's door panel to replace the light bulb that illuminates the seat adjustment mechanism. If so, how do you do it? 2. How do you replace the light bulbs in the climate control control box on the console? Do you need to take the whole thing apart,or can you do it from the outside? If you need to take the whole thing apart, do you need to take the electronic board apart as well? 3. How does the covering in the footwell come off? I see two screws that seem to hold it up, but it still sticks when those are removed and I'm not into forcing things. Thanks, ARW |

I am not totally sure but I think I remember the mount for the seat adjustment is clipped into the door panel, use a platic wedge in the front of the panel to remove, it should just pop out, be careful as to not damage the wood. Also to remove the climate control on that car you will have to get behind it by removing the console, I have never removed the console in one of those cars, never need to in my 300SD, so I don't know how to guide you on that one. I would remove the radio and see if you could get up above to the clips that hold in the climate control, that is what I would do. Good luck!

Climate Control light bulbs
Thanks Brian,
I have gotten to the panel on which the push buttons are mounted and it seems to be pretty firmly attached in a sandwich arrangement with the PC board on the back a a plastic retainer on the front to hold the buttons in I think. They don't want you to take that apart as they have put seals that show you've been there if you go there. Someone else mentined that he thinks the buttons come off-though I think it is an earlier model than my 93 300SD. Sure seems that you should not have to take the whole console apart to change a light bulb! Got any help on getting the panel over the footwell off? Thanks, Allan |
