replacing drivers side window motor

I tried to follow the directions in the cd but it talks about taking out the window regulator. My problem is the window is stuck closed the manual says to lower the window to take out the regulator which I can't do.

My question is do I need to take out the regulator to change the window motor? Any suggestions, tips? I read the different threads but I'm an idiot and would appreciate the help.

It would help if you let us know what year and model car you have. Are you able to disconnect the regulator arm from the bottom of the window? That will make it easier to move the regualator around inside the door.

Do you know how to check for power going to that window motor? A quick test I have read about is energize your interior light and then with the key in the appropriate position press the window switch. The light should dim slightly if electricity is being drawn. If you already have the interior door panel off there was a two post, black electrical connector with four wires showing. Those should provide the current to the window motor. With a test light or meter you can check for power at either of those posts when you activate the window switch.

The above is what I just went through on my '87 300TD (124). I was also told/read you can run a jumper wire from the positive post of the battery to one of the two posts and see if that powers the window. It is VERY IMPORTANT not to do more than touch the power to the post since you may have a situation like I did where the regulator gears were bound up tight.

Post back with the progress on checking for power.

I think it might be a short somewhere. I have already replaced the switch and have power going to the motor. The strange thing that has started is when I press the switch the radio goes out. The power to the radio stays on I just lose the sound. All three other windows work so I know it's not a fuse.
