Question Ring job 190D 2.2

I have replaced rings, bearings, and had a valve job done on an inline 6 gasser, Triumph TR6. Is there a lot of difference in doing the same kind of work on a 2.2 diesel? I have never worked on a diesel, although my brother is a diesel truck mechanic.

Any pros and cons will be appreciated.

the diff

between diesel and gasser is not that much theoretically. but that said a mb has an overhead cam, which i dont know if the tr does. this complicates things quite a lot. and mb diesels have a lot of bolts to undo and a lot of parts and design features that other engines do without. tearing one down and reassembling it correctly is not for the faint of heart. also if the engine is tired you may not find success with a quickie rebuild, and the analysis of what is needed takes careful measuring with the proper tools.

if you give us more details we may be able to help you more in making the decision that you are considering.

good luck

There is a BIG difference,

not in the removal or takin it apart-putting it back together. Is there a particular reason why you are taking the engine apart?

Generally-I'll say ALWAYS, engine "freshen ups" don't work with diesels. If you have lower end problems and it needs rings- well, it will need OS pistons and boring of the block to be reliable.
Diesels can go hundreds of thousands of miles with regular oil changes. The valves tend to not require grinding as often due to the slightly lower operation RPM or maybe due to different camshaft design. When they do need valve jobs, they tend to need new guides and valves.
