500 SEC interior ?'s
Hello all from a new SEC owner.
Picked up an '82 500 SEC w/ AMG pkg to tinker with. It's lowered w/Lorinser 17" wheels, full ground effects all around, white faced gauges with "Lorinser", and a Lorinser emblem on the hood and plauqe on the center console. By no means a show car, but looks halfway decent. Without going into great detail, the car is fairly solid body wise, runs good & handles fine but needs some other TLC. I'm taking it in for a tranny service to see if that will cure some issues I've noticed when driving it. I've got a line a 380SEL parts car that I wonder if I can pull some goodies from. I only talking interior related items here. It looks to me that the front seats are indentical in this 4 door car compared to my 2 dr. Only difference I see is that these might have a 2-position memory feature from the looks of the two buttons on the elec. switches. I'm sure that could be easily bypassed if needed. I think they would bolt right in, but what about the rear seats? More importantly, how about the rear pillar panels and shelf? Also, would the right-front window regulator work on the SEC? Or do I need to find one from an SEC? Thanks, Cliff |

well they might
bolt in but the sedan seats wont fold forward. they are different too in that the sec seats have higher bolsters in the back and bottom. i think. also i think that the roof line is lower in the coupes and the seat actually sits lower. this i am not sure of but it is def true in my 123 coupe.
not much in the seats that is the same from coupe to sedan. the backs of the coupe seats are also thinner to provide kneeroom in the back of the 6" shorter coupe. i have an 84 500sec, a 90 sdl and a 82 300cd. tom w

Yeah, I though about the tilt issue after i submitted the post. Looks like I can use the console though. Since I posted, I have been in contact with a fellow who may have some parts i need. Really need a pass door window regulator at the moment.
It figures MB would design their coupe seats and such completely different from the 4-door sedan. Certainly a different approach from US makers of an earlier time. Cliff |
