Can someone tell me what diagnostic tool I need to read the trouble codes? Is this car OBDII compliant?

Would like the answer to the same question. The '94 is pre OBD-II and I need to run the codes causing my Check Engine light to stay on.

A 94 C280 is partial OBDII compliant, not fully. What do you have for a diagnostic socket? Is there a built-in pushbutton/LED?

This isn't true. My '94 C280 had the 38 pin X11/4 diagnostic connector that I read codes from all the time using your popular led/sw scan tool.

In fact my 202 also had an OBDII connection as well, so I guess mine was a 'hybrid' as deanyel mentioned.

I suppose it all depends on the car's production date but I would imagine that all '94's could be led/sw flash read for codes.

I am sure you are correct if you have done it..
These were a transition year and maybe it was '95..

Ok , I think I have it ..
Flash codes can be gotten from some modules at 38 pin connector, but there is no longer flash code to DM module on 202, meaning you can not flash code for CE lamp retrieve or erase/cancel w/flash.. that is done through the digital under dash with a scanner only..

I guess that is where the confusion comes from.
EA,HFM, ATA,CC etc can be flashed , But DM can not .. [ but they still can on the 104 engined E class of the same years]
I guess that is the first change towards full obd2...
