Dead tach and ABS light in 95 E300D

Hi,

The tachometer in our 95 E300D is dead and the ABS light is "on" on the dash.

I checked the main fueses #5 fuse for tachometer, fuse is fine. I could not locate the ABS fuse to check it.

Any idea what this problems might be ?

Thank you guys.

Lookin at search results... I am suspecting the OVP relay??

I hear it is about 100 bucks and it is located behind the fuse panel?

That is the starting point, but first check the FUSE in the overvoltage relay!

Helo MBDOC,

I read countless posts about the ovp.,

Just 5 min ago, I checked the 10A fuse it was blown. However after replacing it with a new one and starting the car, the fuse melted again.

What do you think is the next step? The overvoltage relay is blowing the fuse. It is the factory one with black top and a clear glass cover over the fuse.

I am thinking that the overload relay is busted indeed? There may be a short in the overload realy itself?

What are your though on this?

thanks again, all of you are of great help

The purpose of the Over Voltage Protection relay is to 'blow' the fuse to interrupt power to, and thus protect, electronics when the supply voltage is too high.

Buy or borrow a multimeter and measure the voltage at the battery with the car off, and then with it running. Anything much higher than 13-14 volts when it is running is not good.

Yeah, that would make sense. Why would the overload relay blow its own fuse
