Nut stuck really tight
Hi all,
I was attempting to change out the old shock/spring assembly from the rear end of my ML. The nut that bolted the shock to the lower wishbone get stuck. The problem is I need to use a Torx T-30 to hold the shaft while turning the nut. I have managed to sheer off 2 of those T-30 torx bits. I was able to loosen it only ended up having rust trapped in the tread and the nut got stuck. I cannot turn it either way without breaking another torx bit. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Surely, plan B will be the mechanics with the power tools. thanks steve

brutal tactics required
1. get a new bolt and nut.
2. soak rusted threads in penetrating oil for a day and try again or file a couple of flats on to the old bolt head and grip with vice grips/big wrench or cut thro the old bolt with a power hacksaw/angle grinder

well the shaft is part of the shock, and it goes through the rear lower wishbone. I wish I could just cut througt it, there is no room for it. I have a deep offset box end wrench to turn the nut, no problem, it's that the shaft needs to be counter held and only a torx T30 fixs down there. Whoever design this kind of crap didn't take rust into consideration and I hate those torx bits.

If it is rust you are battling, get a can of PB Balster from Autozone, its the best penetrant I've found. I used it today on a few fender bolts/speed nuts on my wife's 96 Maxima. Two spray applications about 30 minutes apart, then apply easy but strong torque working counterclockwise and clockwise until it begins to loosen. Great product.
