Any 3.0 liter 104 engines ?
Does anyone know for sure if any 104 engines in the early 90's were 3.0 liter ? This question arose in determining the value of a 91 300CE. TIA.

Yes, I believe all 300CE's from 1990-1992 were the 3.0 liter M104 engine.

Agree, and all 300SLs (U.S.) from 90 to 93 were 3.0 liter 104 motors. The coupes were 104.980 while the SLs were 104.981s.

Agreed with the above. I looked at a '92 300CE a few years back. Neat little engine - redline is 7000RPM. Very different than the later m104 engines, it had a distributor rather than the three coils of the later engines. I would guess it's also lacking the electronic throttle.

Are you looking at buying this car?
Let's see....you have a wagon and a sedan....I guess you'd need a coupe and a convertible to complete the lineup.

Paul,,,, as much as I would love to have one of every Benz, I'm stretched a bit thin these days. The car in question was totaled and belonged to one of my customers. He and I thought the old ,,, of which you are familiar,,, wrong badging was put on the car, and perhaps he could claim more value if it was indeed a 3.2. Thanks.

Nationwide insurance is going to own the car shortly. It was hit in the left front that took both front unibody frame rails over about a foot. The engine has been hit and the hood even came back and hit the windshield. The guy is lucky,,,, another split second and he would have been hit right in the door, and probably would be dead. He has been offered $8200 for the car and he is balking. The car was not an $8200 car,,,, we have worked on it many times, and had 155K on it. I feel he is being offered much more for the car than he ever could have sold it for. I constantly tell my customers that if their car gets totaled, they will in most cases get a very fair deal from MOST insurance companies. The car is still good from the front doors back, but I would never want to repair it. Junk is junk.

Sounds like a fair deal... Those coupes hold their value real well but 82 is hard to dispute...

The guy is a fool to not take the $8200.
A pristine car with low miles would be lucky to get $6000. His car is probably worth $5k-ish in the private party market.

The prices on those seem to be all over the place. My buddy has been bidding on some and he's bid up to 7500 on one in Calif. 1992 coupe last week and did not win.
I bought another 124 last night off ebay it was a wagon, 1992 300 TE and I paid $6600. and I thought I was real luck sinve the car has had about everything that goes wrong with a 124 fixed or replaced. Last edited by Ron in SC; 12-13-2005 at 07:49 PM. |

the M103 was also sold in the same years. Same rule apply to 300E (M103), 300E-24 (M104) and 300TE (M103), 300TE-24 (M104) All of them are 3.0L in that timeframe. Best guess to what you have is to look to see how many cams you have (1 for M103 and 2 for M104) regardless of badging. br, syljua

Sorry I was doing U.S. only. There was a lot of great 103 motor cars that we did not get.
