2000 E240 engine oil overfilled
Independent mechanic overfilled my E 240 by about 1/4 inch as measured on dip stick. Computer tells me to reduce oil level. Does that need immediate attention or can I wait until I have time to do it? What problems coud arise by that kind of overfill. I already drove about 400 mls since oilchange(overfill)
Thx, Reinhard

i doubt that
it will hurt to wait a while.
i dont know if the newer engines are different but i have run that much over full many times without consequenses. tom w

i would keep an eye
on the oil pressure.
if the oil level gets high enough to have the rod throws hit it it will foam and the reslultant loss of oil pressure will damage the engine. tom w

Get over there and have them remove the xcess. The engine can tolerate under but not over, foaming could be an issue. at least have them acknowledge the error. I would find another "indi" the dipstick should be checked before the car leaves the shop.

Don't worry about it. The baffle in the oil pan will ensure that a slight overfill doesn't cause any harm. Either way, have the tech adjust the oil level to where it should be, and remind him to not overfill it the next time.
