Hi- We have a 79 280CE. Just sent it off to the repair shop for Idle Speed Adjustment and mixture adjustment. I sure hope it helps.
Anyway, we have a sunroof problem. It goes back about 2 to 3 inches on it's own and then it is SO HARD to move back. You literally have to push it with all your strength. Then you have to help drag it back closed and it will pick up about 2 inches til closed and do the rest on it's own. Any ideas??? Also, we are having to replace the soundproofing underneath the back seat. Where can we get some of that or is there a substitute that we can buy at the home improvement store?? Thanks for the help. This board is great... Eric D in TN |

What part of Tn. I was raised in Blount Co. at the foot of the Smokey Mts. Now about your sunroof. Did you know there is an adjustment screw on the motor in the trunk? Well there is, and is fairly easy to do. I believe the instructions are in your owners manual. If not, I'm sure they are posted somewhere on the Shop Forum. Here I've used that green stuff for more than 35 years with nary a bit of trouble. Bill L. |

Mine would move ok then towards the end would almost stick and go very slowly.
I greased the track for the sunroof and it moves smoothly now. Alon

We don't have an owners manual so I will look for the instructions on the board. We live in Lake City. Just North of Knoxville. My wife & I own GatlinburgShopping.com and so we are in the Mountains quite a bit. We love it..
Thanks for the help and I will try and find those instructions. Also, what kind of lube do you use for the sunroof. |

I used some grease I had in my grease gun that I use to lubricate the moving parts on my boat trailer. a couple of squirts, and several openening and closings of the roof, and it now needs no assistance from me.
I would think that the lithium grease is what is recommended if I remember correctly from other postings. The tracks may not be the problem you are having though. the sunroof cable could need lubricating. But it wouldn't hurt to grease the track first and see if it improves it. Alon

Eric,
I know exactly where Lake City is. It's just off I-75. I go thru there when I go to Alcoa, the town I grew up in. Now the way to adjusting your sliding roof slipping clutch mechanism. On the nut of the gear mechanism (the nut used for emergency crank operation) bend the locking tab down flat. Use a screw driver and hold the shaft and tighten the nut. Turn just enough to get the clutch adjusted. As for lubrication, the manual says to clean the rails and lubricate with non acid grease. Good luck. Bill Lewallen Lexington,Ky. |
