240d leaking from filter housing NO OLD O-RING IN THE GROOVE!!

The car is a 1979 240d 123 chassis.

I am having trouble with oil gushing from around the o-ring on the filter housing. It has happened twice when starting the car. There is no second o-ring. The groove is shiny aluminum, the o-ring is seating against the metal on both sides. The housing and the top are coming together metal to metal. Twice now the o-ring has pushed out in one spot. It seams that the top of the housing is flexing enough for the o-ring to get out. Why does it seem there is so much pressure in the filter housing.

Thanks,

Jason
